Desings By Charlotte Moss

Charlotte Moss started her career operating a retail store in the West Village that quickly became a destination for furniture and decorative accessories. Moss' initial foray into expanded product areas began in 1991 with the release of her book A Passion for Detail (Doubleday). Engaging, reassuring and filled with creative ideas, consumer demand for insight from Charlotte Moss resulted in the publication of five subsequent titles: Creating A Room (Viking Studio Books, 1995), The Poetry of Home (Boxwood Press, 1998), Design Inspirations (Boxwood Press, 2004), Winter House (Clarkson Potter, 2005), and A Flair For Living (Assouline, 2008). Her seventh title is due in 2011.

Due to increasing consumer interest, Moss is partnering with select luxury home ware craftsmen and expanding her original product offering. Driven by her unique inspirations, Moss has designed accessories, fabrics, furniture, linens, china, and carpet that make the Charlotte Moss aesthetic readily available to the consumer market. Her partnership with preeminent international design companies such as Agraria, Brunschswig & Fils, Fabricut, Halcyon Days, Pickard, Seibert & Rice and Stark Carpet is indicative of Charlotte Moss' commitment to expanding her collections and sharing them with her discerning clientele.

Fabricut
Charlotte Moss for Fabricut

"In July 2009 we officially started work with Fabricut on a new collection of fabrics and trims to be launched in January 2011. While this seems to be a long way off, we are very excited about what this collection will be. Textiles have long been a passion of mine, one shared by the great team at Fabricut. I look forward to working with them to make this collection happen."

Charlotte Moss for Halcyon Days

"I have bought these wonderful enamels as gifts, and received them as gifts, for years. It is a great pleasure and opportunity to be entrusted with creating designs for today. Once again I’ve chosen to invoke the muse - images and motifs from the lives of women who continue to inspire - myself and others."

The Muse Collection by Charlotte Moss was launched in October 2009. To view the entire collection, place your order, or find a local retailer visit the Halcyon Days website!

Charlotte Moss for Agraria

Charlotte Moss' two signature home fragrances are finishing accents that complete the casual elegance of the Moss lifestyle. Harkening back to her upbringing, Virginia carries the strong feminine notes of lily of the valley, jasmine, and roses, all mimicking the flora and women of Moss' home state.

Frequent buying trips to Paris inspired Charlotte to imagine a fragrance that embodies the mystery, romance, and sophistication of the city's Left Bank. Introduced in the fall of 2008, Left Bank transports the senses with fresh top notes of crisp lemongrass and crushed pink peppercorn blossoms, the mid notes of frankincense and patchouli surround you as cashmere wood warms the background. Both are produced by Agraria, the world's most celebrated name in home fragrance.

Behind every great fabric, there's a great woman. This, at least, was Charlotte Moss' inspiration for her premiere collection of fabric and wall coverings for Brunschwig & Fils. The collection celebrates female writers, painters and personalities ranging from Colette to Daphne Du Maurier to Vanessa Bell. Though she's known for sumptuous dressmaker details, Moss strives for her rooms to have an ease of spirit – spaces that are lived in, not merely observed. Her décor has emotion, passion and atmosphere.

Charlotte Moss for Pickard China
Charlotte Moss for Pickard China

Charlotte Moss has designed four patterns to date for American china manufacturer, Pickard, and is always dreaming up something new. Each has a distinct decorative motif for the hostess who needs options.

Southampton is a fresh floral pattern in blue and white, a color scheme everybody loves.Elsie was inspired by interior decorator Elsie de Wolfe's home in Versailles, translating de Wolfe's passion for treillage into elegance on the table.Nancy incorporates a graceful motif of basketweave that would have felt at home in the English countryside, where Nancy Lancaster lived most of her life.

Espalier comes from the potagers and parterres of Europe, where trees and vines are trained to grown on flat planes to conserve space and maximize new growth.

Charlotte Moss created a chinoiserie terracotta planter inspired by the Pagoda at Chanteloup in France's Loire Valley. Designed by architect Louis-Denis le Camus and built in 1775, the Chanteloup Pagoda is the only structure remaining of the chateau built by the Duc de Choiseul.

"Years ago on a visit there I climbed the seven stories by an interior circular staircase, passing by balustrades and window grilles all made from different Chinese fretwork patterns and ideograms that represent love, wisdom, and friendship. Combinations of fretwork will always make me think of Chanteloup." – Charlotte Moss
